Hiking & Outdoor Adventures
Wayah Bald: Located about 12 miles from Franklin, Wayah Bald offers incredible panoramic views from its historic stone fire tower. On a clear day, you can see both the Great Smoky and Appalachian Mountains.
Appalachian Trail: Several trailheads for the famous Appalachian Trail are accessible near Franklin. Winding Stair Gap and Siler Bald are popular sections close to town, offering breathtaking views and varied trail lengths.
Float the Little Tennessee River: grab a tube, kayak, or other aquatic vessel and float down the Little Tennessee River river for a gorgeous, relaxing adventure. Our favorite spot to "put-in" is here
Waterfalls to Explore
Dry Falls: Located along Highway 64 near Highlands, Dry Falls is one of the area’s most iconic waterfalls. It features a path that allows visitors to walk behind the waterfall, creating a beautiful experience.
Cullasaja Falls: Also on Highway 64, Cullasaja Falls is a stunning 200-foot waterfall accessible via a scenic overlook. It’s perfect for a quick stop while exploring the area.
Glen Falls: This series of three waterfalls is slightly further away, in Highlands and offers a moderately challenging 2-mile round-trip hike.
Other Attractions
Little Tennessee River Greenway: This peaceful greenway offers walking and biking paths along the river, perfect for a leisurely afternoon in nature.
Franklin Gem and Mineral Museum: Known as the “Gem Capital of the World,” Franklin has a rich history of gem mining. The museum offers insights into local geology, and visitors can even try gem mining at nearby locations like Rose Creek Mine.
Cowee Valley Pottery and Artisan Community: Cowee Valley, just north of Franklin, is a historic area known for its pottery and local artisan shops.
